SPORTS IN BRITAIN ----------------- The British are very fond of sports, and when they are not playing or watching games themselves they like talking about them. Nearly every British town has a football team. The Cup Final, which takes place at Wembley Stadium in London, is one of the most exciting events of the year. Rugby is played with an egg-shaped ball which may be carried or thrown. However, the players must not throw it forward - as one normally does - but only backward. When a player is carrying the ball the players of the second team try to stop him. So often ten or more players lie on the ground, one on top of the other. You can well imagine that they sometimes get very dirty. Another typically British kind of sport is cricket. It is played in summer but it is not so popular as football. Cricketers wear white trousers, shirts, and pullovers. The rules are quite difficult for a foreigner to understand.
